And sometimes the cliques are on the part of the players not the 
"powers that be"  There are, indeed, some cliques that have left
the SCA.  They also didn't really play as part of the fabric of the
Kingdom.  They had a household, and just played with the 
household.  If they didn't get recognized, maybe they should take
some responsibility for that.  They were the types of people that 
would not contribute any time or effort to their local group, but
they would show up to all the events just to play.

There are still some cliques in the Kingdom that are like that, too.
