[Artemisia] What you say via electronic means

The "Sent Items" mailbox is far more revealing, truthful and will give you a better look into somebody's character than anything they will post on the Aerie and it is a double standard if you place weight on public comments and totally disregard what somebody says privately.

I can honestly say that I have been taken to task for "ripping" on someone that is considered by many to be an example of what is wrong with the SCA, because such ripping is not considered the proper way of dealing with such people.

What is said privately is just that, private. What is said publically is subject to the scrutiny and interpretation of everyone who "hears" it.

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY- why do YOU consider ripping on you to be held in a different light than a popular peer?? Perhaps you should consider that maybe, just maybe, the way others perceive you is not nearly as bad as you like to think. You may not be quite the martyr you believe yourself to be.

Of course, I could be wrong.

1) Doing this is an exclusionary tactic and will only be used as an
excuse to not to give somebody an award. By the vary nature of
online communication it is typically blunt, poorly written and
even the most well intentioned comment can sound negative.

2) This standard isn't going to be universally applied. Somebody
ripping on a popular peer might won't be held in the same light
as say somebody ripping on me. Is there a difference? No! So
why would anybody even suggest a standard that isn't going to
be fair and honorable to all regardless of rank.

3) It's not what is said publically what you need to worry about
but what is said privately. Politicans will kiss babies and tell
you what they think you want to hear while stealing your lollipop.
Just because somebody is saying something publically doesn't mean
others aren't saying far worse privately.

Michael
