[Artemisia] Is modern raw silk period?

Oh so many questions.
 
Ok, assuming I know very little about weave, weft and etc., what on earth are the terms 'slub' and 'noil'.  Is there a handy place to get such definitions for the less knowledgeable?
 
I begin to understand the answer to my initial question, but you marvelous helpers have now created quite a few new ones.
