Greetings good gentles of Artemisia! At Coronation last weekend, we had a fabulous bardic circle where many fine persons did regale us with music of all kinds. I myself brought forth a drinking song and taught it to those present.

As protege to Baron Tor and Baroness Rachel (I am still amazed that such august persons found me worthy of them <grin>) I gladly accept the challenges they give me. Baroness Rachel has challenged me to use my gift in the art and knowledge of period music to encourage more social singing within our own Barony and throughout the Kingdom. So I shared the above mentioned song.

The song was well received, but something was missing. It is a short song and Baroness Rachel had the great idea of making it an "Add a Verse" song.

The song went as follows:
And let me the Kannikan clink, clink. And let me the Kannikan clink.
A soldiers a man, a lifes but a span, when they let a soldier drink. (in this line soldier is spread over three notes)

Leaving the first line as is, we can replace the second line with whatever verse you can think of.

Here are a few examples people have come up with already:

And let me the Kannikan clink, clink. And let me the Kannikan clink.
A knight takes the field, the foe who then yields, when they let a nobel knight drink. (in this line, nobel takes two beats and knight takes the third beat)

And let me the Kannikan clink, clink. And let me the Kannikan clink.
Oh sailors be wary, the ocean to tarry, when they let a pirate drink.

And let me the Kannikan clink, clink. And let me the Kannikan clink.
The King lifts his glass, a new tax will pass, when they let a monarch drink. (with all due respect to His Majesty, of course)

I challenge you all to come up with your own fun verse to add to this song. Have your verse ready for your next bardic and make your kannikans (cups) clink!

In Service,
Lady Elsidh
