You do realize that you can do very nice lace on much bigger needles, 
right? The Pi shawl I'm making started out on 9's and is now on 10's. 
And the gauge is still a little small.
I'm working down to tiny needles, myself, but it's for non-lace knitting.
yes, I'm certifiable.  I think that's what the leaves were, a while back ;-D
