Subject: Fundraising for Gleann Abhann/Meridies flooding

Just a few reminders regarding fundraising for disasters:

1) SCA funds may not be raised for or used to benefit specific people. Funds for individuals or families of individuals are not valid donation destinations for any SCA funds.

2) SCA branches may raise funds for and donate to any valid registered disaster relief organization. The American Red Cross is another 501(c)(3) organization (Tax ID# 53-0196605). Branch financial committees must vote whether and how much to donate. Then they send the donation to their local branch of the Red Cross, which can be found by going to www.redcross.org. It is possible to designate
where you would like your donation used.
https://www.redcross.org/donation/formprint.html has a form to use to print out to accompany the check. It is a good idea to keep a copy of the form sent in with the check for the Exchequer's files.

There are other registered disaster relief organizations - the American Red Cross is only one, but it is one of the largest. Branches may choose to donate to other valid disaster relief organizations.

3) As always, fundraisers which do not name the SCA, do clearly identify the destination organization or fund, and are conducted as a 'pass-the-hat' where the money does not go through an SCA account may be directed as the donors see fit.

Our hopes and good wishes are with those in Gleann Abhann and Meridies affected by the hurricane and flooding.
