[Artemisia] We're the Society for Creative Anything

Hello,

Part of the responsibility of those who want a more "medieval" society is to occassionally be the "bad guy" and crack down on mundanity at events. This includes: nonperiod CDs playing on uncovered radios, cell phones, soda cans, modern gaming, and BLATANTLY mundane conversations about work, computer games, etc. People don't have to speak forsoothly, but it is disheartening to hear about the latest level of (insert xbox game title here), at a Crown Tournament.

The question I have to ask though is this: At what point, do you start "kicking people out" for not filling your ideals of medieval reenactment society?

Events are sometimes the only time that friends see each other, so a certain amount of catch up is probably to be expected. However, do we banish the Romans for being too early, the Caviliers for being to late, the Far East personas because "no one understands them", Middle Eastern personas because they are too noisy when they walk?" When does it end? Granted that newer players should be allowed more leadway than older players, BUT let me ask: How many people have AoA's and don't have a name or device registered or of those who do; How many actually have a banner or display their arms? I belive when you recieve an AoA, you are "charged by their Majesties to come up with unique and suitable arms." Isn't being charged by Majesties, the same as a royal command? So if you disobey a royal command, should you be asked to leave the society?

The great strength of the society is that we are all inclusive and allow ANYONE with an interest in medieval history to join us, even if they don't pay for annual memberships.

I agree that some individuals/groups/kingdoms have lost their focus, but isn't it that the responsibility of you and me? We can only be the best that we chose to be, as far as policing ourselves. Let others follow our example or not as they chose. However, in my opinion, if you are going to put others to a standard, then you better be certain that you're not in a position to be critized.

  Just my 2 pence,

Yup! Have to agree with you there! As well as on some of the other points
you make.
