Just got a phone call tonight from Duke Brion Tarragon, Crown Prince of 
the East. He’s asked me to be his royal falconer, starting with his 
coronation on Saturday. I hadn’t planned on attending coronation, but 
with a royal invite, I suppose I will. J

He’s a very nice guy, by the way, an equestrian and a big supporter of 
falconry. He knows I’m moving to Aethelmearc this summer, but I should 
still be able to make a few events before I go. He knows I can’t promise 
to make every stop on the royal progress. Anyway, Clarice (my RT) is 
well-accustomed to SCA events and well-behaved in court. Once she 
settles in she rarely bates, and never bites or gets footy. Of course I 
give her frequent breaks, sips of water, and “quiet time” to avoid 
stressing her. She’s very well-behaved in crowds, but I’ve also learned 
to read her, and can tell when she needs to go back in her giant hood 
for some “down time”. Anyway, thought I’d let y’all know that the new 
King of the East is a big falconry fan.
