“Mother Mary protect me, that was close,” muttered Willem under his breath, as an arrow shattered on the stone of the parapet.
He winced as little stone chips peppered his cheek. As he peeked over the edge, looking for a target, he again wondered in awe at the army spread out before him. Pennons flapped in the stiff breeze, and the sea of bodies at the base of the wall surged back and forth in waves as scaling ladders rose and fell, men screaming as they either fell from the ladders, or were crushed beneath them. Arrows flew through the air, as archers on both sides shot into the massed armies. Arrows from the walls scored much more often than those shot from below. He could also hear the booming crash as the horde tried to break down the gates with their ram.
Off in the distance, away from the struggling bodies below, he saw the banner of the Saracen commander, with several men moving around it. He thought he recognized the device of the caliph. A long shot, but perhaps…
He ducked down, nocked an arrow in his longbow, and taking a deep breath, quickly stood, drew back, and released. The arrow flew straight and true, but a member of the Caliph's guard stepped between him and the Caliph, and Willem cursed as his arrow took the warrior through the throat.
Missed!
He peeked over the parapet again, and with some satisfaction, saw the caliph, and his guard, scampering back out of range. At least some of their arrogance was gone.

Did we mention, fighting on the castle?
The site is, as in past years, the "Castle" behind the State Hospital in Provo Utah. Site Opens at Noon on Friday May 11th and closes on Sunday May 13th. For those who haven't been to this wonderful site take your best route to Provo Center street exit. Go East on Center (towards the mountains). Follow it until you see it curve to your left. There will be a sharp right hand turn onto a divided street which will be marked with the usual SCA Signage. Follow the rest of the signs up and behind the hospital.
Site Fees are $15 for the weekend and $10 for day trip $5 for those 15 years old and younger. There will be a $40 family cap on these fees. This is a State Park and so it is a dry site. There are limited water sources. No feast will be held this year although there will be a lunch fund raiser on Saturday. Any questions may be directed to the Autocrats; Lord Stephan Schwartzwald (801) 225-7218 - email ktucker59 at yahoo.com or Lord Padruig (rayzentz at aol.com)
