OK I give.
I read....ALOT. I have more authors who are on auto buy and who are in my "keepers" lists that I could quickly mention. I finished Potter 7 last Saturday and have read 4 other books since then.

So if everyone is raving about de Lint....why have I never read even one of his books? I Amazon'd him and boy...is he prolific!! I need a good place to start, so would one of you de Lint fans please recommend one of his books?

  Um...maybe "off list" since I don't want to try anyone's patience. :-)

  Hey, now....
I'm a fan of both Rowling and de Lint. An extreme fan of de Lint, actually. extreme, extreme. Shares the spotlight with Guy Gavriel Kay, in point of fact. Even more beloved and influential in my life than Tolkien. Well, maybe equal with Tolkien....
But comparing the two authors, simply because they kinda/sorta share a genre, is like comparing peaches and cherries, both of which are fruits. They're wonderful, but very different withall.

No stones from me. I'll take de Lint over the potter books any day of the
week!
