Subject: [Artemisia] Fw: A & S Competition at Barons' War

Kingdom Tenth Anniversary/Barons' War

A & S Competition

To celebrate the ten years of Artemisia's glorious existence as a
Kingdom, an Arts and Sciences Competition will be held at Barons' War,
with one war point being awarded to the winning Barony. The
Competition will be held on Saturday, July 28th.

Schedule

10 - 11 am Entries submitted to Competition Coordinator
(Absolutely no late entries!)
11 am - 2 pm Judging
2 – 5 pm Entries available for display and viewing by the
general populace
5 – 5:30 pm Artisans must pick up their entries

Evening Court Winners of the Competition will be recognized

Categories

There will be ten categories for this Competition, based on the
traditional anniversary gifts for each of the ten years. There will
be one winner per category and the Barony whose artisans win the
greatest number of categories, will be awarded the war point. The
judges will also select one "Best of Show" piece. In the event that
both Baronies win equal numbers of categories, the Barony whose
artisan wins the "Best of Show" will be awarded the war point. The
categories are as follows:

1st - Paper

2nd - Cotton

3rd - Leather

4th - Linen, Silk, or Flowers

5th - Wood

6th - Iron or Candy

7th - Copper or Wool

8th - Bronze

9th - Pottery or China

10th - Tin

An artisan may enter one item in multiple categories, as long as it
fits in all of those categories. For example, a leather pouch
branded, carved or stamped with a floral design may be entered in both
Category 3 (leather) and Category 4 (linen, silk or flowers).
HOWEVER, items entered in multiple categories must have separate
documentation for each category. Each set of documentation must state
how the piece relates to the specific category in which it is entered.

Liberal interpretation of the categories is encouraged, but the
artisan must be able to justify that interpretation.

Baronial Representation

Any artisan may enter the competition. If they are from Loch Salann
or Gryphon's Lair, they will be representing their home Barony. If
the artisan is from another Barony or Kingdom, he or she must declare
which Barony they are representing upon submitting their work into the
Competition (for the purpose of determining the war point).

Documentation

One page of written documentation is required. It must contain basic
information about the piece, including what it is and/or what is was
used for, where it came from (design source, country or region, time
period), how it was made, and a brief list of sources or references.
In addition, the documentation must provide a statement explaining how
the piece relates to the category in which it is entered. An
additional page of pictures, drawings or diagrams may also be attached
to the documentation, if desired. IMPORTANT NOTE: The documentation
must not contain the artisan's name or the Barony which the artisan is
representing. That information will be provided only to the
Competition Coordinator upon entering the piece into the competition
and will remain confidential until the results of the competition are
made known. As stated above, items entered in multiple categories
must have separate documentation for each category. Each set of
documentation must state how the piece relates to the specific
category in which it is entered. A sample format for the
documentation is attached to this message and blank forms available at
the Competition which participants can fill out on site.

Judging & Prizes

Entries will be judged and prizes will be awarded. In the interest of
saving time, the judges will use an abbreviated judging form and will
provide only minimal written comments. In the event that no items are
entered in a particular category, no prize will be awarded for that
category. If only one item is entered in a category and the judges
feel that it is not sufficiently qualified, the judges may opt not to
award a prize in that category. Any judges who are willing and able
to provide their services for this event, please contact the
undersigned at your earliest convenience.

Prizes will be awarded in court, to the winner of each category and
for the "Best of Show". Her Majesty and their Excellencies Baroness
Bianca and Baroness Nisa may also select their personal choices for
recognition.

Please contact me, if you have any questions, are willing to serve as
a judge, or would like copies of the entry and judging forms.

Yours In Service,

Lady Anna de Brabant
