All other discussion points aside, Talmud is commentary on Torah.  It is,
essentially, a bunch of the greatest rabbinic sages in a metaphoric room
that spans hundreds of years arguing with each other.  

You may be thinking of the Tanakh (Torah, Prophets, and Writings) or Mishna
(the oral tradition stories and explanations surrounding the stories in
Torah).
