[Artemisia] Re: Artemisia Digest, Vol 44, Issue 13

Okay, I'm jumping in here.

Though I have not made Richard the Lionheart a study. I have been studying
the scriptures for most of my life. I have also done some real formal study
in what we would call biblical apologetics. The bible has not been written
and edited and rewritten. The creation of the Torah, (and Tenach for that
matter), has always been a very exacting science/art. And ask anyone in the
scribes guilds what it takes to make a scroll and how exacting the scribes
were in the middle ages. We know that the scriptures have changed very
little over the centuries, we have the documents to prove it. IE: the Dead
Sea Scrolls.

If anyone is interested in the archeological/historical sources for why I
believe the bible is very similar today to what was originally delivered
(more similar than say the writings of Shakespeare), I will be glad to
provide those sources off list. It's a big subject and rather off topic.

But to say we don't know, is to imply that we can't know, and I believe that
we can come to some very reasonable conclusions based on what we do know.

Let's not forget that the bible has been written and edited and re-written
over and over again for several centuries. Who knows WHAT the men in power
who originally wrote it to control the masses had in there to BEGIN with.

Milady, you are obviously reading a newer version of the text, probably the
King James bible, since you referenced the new testament. I read what
leviticus said in the original hebrew. The fact that your new testament
english version says something completely different from the original hebrew
version, to me at least, calls into question the entire veracity of that
translation.

Interesting discussion on King Richard. I don't know much about that,
but I would like to point out to Morgan that the "resolution" for a
"man who lies with a man" was more than simply a bath. Leviticus 20:13
"If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have
done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be
on their own heads."
