Archers of the Realm:

Harvest War will have TWO archery tournaments this weekend, for the price of ONE! (Well, okay, they don't actually cost anything...but that's not the point.)

The first will be our annual Harvest War Tourney, featuring those sadistic targets you have all grown to love and grit your teeth over.

The second tourney will be something quite new: An Elite Tournament. This requires a bit of explanation. Elite Tournaments are fun, but very challenging. They are also rare: Few Kingdoms even hold them. The only one I have ever competed in is the Lochmere Arrow conducted annually in the Barony of Lochmere in the Kingdom of Atlantia. For years I have hoped to be able to begin such a shoot in Artemisia. It is my opinion that our Kingdom has achieved the level of skill necessary. I will not discuss the nature of this Tourney further. May our keen-eyed archers come forth to experience this.

I propose that this Tourney be called the Loch Salann Arrow. The prize will be a single arrow in Loch Salann's tinctures. The winner will hold the Arrow for one year, where it will be passed to the next victor. Each victor will adorn the Arrow with some symbol identifying the victor.

As the originator of the Tourney, I shall adorn the Arrow with my personal Bowman Elite Badge that I attained in the Kingdom of Atlantia.

Follows is a description of the main Tourney. I hope to see you at Harvest!

Ryryd

Static Ends. 6 arrows, at your leisure

Quintain
A quintain with four targets. Each target has two faces, front and back. All archers shoot at the same time, half on one face color, the other half on the other face color. Hits on an archers designated face counts for positive points. Hits on an opposite face counts for negative points.
Own Face Hit: 3 points
Opponent’s Face Hit: -1 point

Evening Hunt
Six small animals, varying range, ground targets.
Each Hit: 1 point
Each Kill: 3 points
All six hit or killed: Bonus 6 points
An animal may only be counted as hit or killed once.

Food or Bragging Rights
Three animals of decreasing size shot at long range.
Large Animal: Hit: 1 point, Kill: 3 points
Medium Animal: Hit: 2 points, Kill: 6 points
Small Animal: Hit: 3 points, Kill: 9 points

 ‘X’ Marks the Spot
A large ‘X’, surrounded by small ‘O’s shot at medium range.
3 points for each hit on the ‘X’
-1 point for each hit on an ‘O’

Timed Ends. Each is 30 seconds. As many arrows as the archer can shoot in that time.

Defending the Tower
Archers must shoot through a waist-high, two-inch wide crossed arrow slit. The target is a line of Terra-Cotta warriors, scaled down to simulate distance. All scoring hits count.
Hit on any body part of a warrior: 3 points. Hit on weapon or shield: 1 point

The Great Wall
A wall with a number of targets partially obscured by the battlements. Archer must move continuously, in one direction, along the designated path, while shooting. This is simulating mounted archers. If the archer stops, he or she is considered killed and must stop shooting. All scoring hits count.
Hit: 3 points. Bonus, for all targets hit: 5 points

Retreating Archer
The archer starts with all arrows or bolts in the quiver. At ‘Fire’, the archer runs to the first firing line and shoots at the first target. The archer then runs to the second firing line and shoots at the second target. The archer then runs to the third and final firing line and shoots as many arrows or bolts at the third target with the remainder of the 30 seconds.
Hit: 5 points

Quarter, Semi, and Final Rounds will be of the appropriate, pain-inducing type.
