  Thank you for your interesting and informative response!  :)  Our mundane selves and our personas would have had very different mind-sets about such things.  We do them in the SCA for fun, a creative outlet, learning and then sometimes submit them for critiques in contests.  How very different things are when seen as a survival and everyday activity from a period person's perspective.  I'm enjoying everyone's responses so far.  Esther

Well, I am too tired to answer more than one of your excellent questions in 
one evening so I will just toss out an answer to the last one.

Much of what my persona would have thought about what she/I do as either an 
art or a science would have simply been viewed by her as a necessity of both 
life in the manor and a responsibility of her position.
