Anyway, my first real job after high school and during my first year of 
college was at an answering service. I sat at one of those old fashioned 
plug boards, and answered the calls when they came in. At night, when I 
had the overnight shift, I would connect the eight boards in the 
business together and have my headset plugged into the first board - 
where all the emergency calls would come in - and be able to roll my 
chair down and answer any odd calls on the lower boards. Those were 
mostly businesses and residences that were not answered after 10 pm or 
so per contract, but there were the occasional call that would need 
response. I was responsible for answering almost 500 phone lines, in 
total - 60 phones per board times 8 boards plus a couple of radio phone 
lines and a two-way radio link to a security company as well.
