ATENVELDT KINGDOM ARTS & SCIENCES COLLEGIUM
June 7-8, 2008

Event pre-registration is now available for the biggest, most fun two-day
Kingdom Collegium held in Atenveldt in many years! To pay your site fees
before you arrive, see the ACCEPS website (http://acceps.ansteorra.org/).
Adult Members $12, Non-members $15, Youth (10 to 17) $6, Youth under 10
years – FREE (these fees cover both days).

Event pre-registration is strongly recommended, especially if you are
interested in taking 9:30 AM classes on Saturday. The site opens at 8:30 AM
and we expect the line at troll will be long that day. Pre-registration
will speed your entrance into the event, keep you on time for that first
class of the day, and allow you to be one of the first to sign up for those
classes that have class limits!

The site is in the Barony of Tir Ysgithr at the privately owned, Green
Fields Country Day School (www.greenfields.org) at 6000 N Camino de la
Tierra, Tucson, AZ 85741, less than a mile from I-10 at the Orange Grove
exit. The site includes 14 classrooms, an auditorium for Court, a gymnasium
for rapier (athletic shoes required), an onsite playground, a soccer field,
and more. There are numerous restaurants and hotels nearby and ample
parking. Crash space is available.

TWO DAYS OF CLASSES: The Collegium is offering over 100 classes on SCA
related topics (classes to run Saturday from 9:30AM to 5:00PM and Sunday
from 9:30AM to 3:00 PM), with an emphasis on these tracks: All Things
Viking, All Things Middle Eastern, Rapier from Head to Foot, Peers and
Royalty, SCA Service/Administration/Officers, Performing Arts, New to the
SCA, Brewing (yes, onsite brewing is allowed!!), Garb/Accessories/Fiber
Arts, Calligraphy/Illumination, Youth (5 to 9 years), and Youth (10 to 15
years). A full Class List by Track and Class Schedule showing class
descriptions, class limits, class fees and scheduled times for each class is
available online at http://arts.atenveldt.org/ (see the “Atenveldt Collegium
2008” page under Favorite Links).

GUEST INSTRUCTOR: We are pleased to announce that Mistress Jadi Fatima
al-Ishfahani al-Samarkandiyya, OL, will travel to the event from the Kingdom
of Meridies as a Guest Instructor offering six special classes in the "All
Things Middle Eastern" track. Mistress Jadi has been teaching Persian and
Middle Eastern arts/research in the SCA for over 10 years, including
teaching classes at Pennsic, Estrella War, Gulf War, Great Western War,
Potrero War, Border Raids and many other events in Artemisia, Outlands and
Meridies. She received her Laurel in the Kingdom of Artemisia. Her areas of
expertise include Central Asian and Persian history, costume, dance, poetry
and embroidery.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES: In addition to 16 classes specifically for youth, a
“Medieval Board Game Room” will be open for youth (and those
young-at-heart), and Bannthegn Francesca Valentina d'Ivrea will be
coordinating a "Story Room for Children" during the hours that classes run
at the Collegium. The Story Room is next to the playground, and is set aside
for bards and entertainers to read stories for children 5 to 9 years old.
Parents/guardians will be asked to sign children in and out and provide the
names of classes where they will be during the child's stay at the story
room. If you are interested in assisting with this room, or if you are a
bard or entertainer who wishes to sign up for an hour entertaining children
in the Story room, please contact Bannthegn Francesca Valentina d'Ivrea at
tracemonster at yahoo.com

OTHER SPECIAL ACTIVITIES: Mistress Marta as tu Mika-Mysliwy, Parhelium
Herald, will be running a Heraldic Consultation table, and teaching two
newcomer classes (Basic Onomastics, or "What is an SCA Name?" and Class:
Basic Armory, or "What is an SCA Device?"), as well as a class on Heraldic
Consultation Hints 'n' Tips. THL Aurelia Chrysanthina Dalassene, the Kingdom
Arts & Sciences Champion,
will be hosting a "Costuming & Needlework Artisan's Display", and a medieval
fashion show ("La Promenade d'Histoire"). Please contact her at
ldyaurelia at yahoo.com if you wish to participate. TRM Phelan and Amirah,
King and Queen of Atenveldt, have let it be known that They will hold
Kingdom Court at Noon on Saturday, and a Chivalry Circle at Noon on Sunday.

FOOD /EVENING ACTIVITIES: Finger foods and drinks will be offered during the
lunch breaks on Saturday and Sunday, so plan to supplement these by bringing
a picnic lunch or visiting a nearby restaurant (a list of restaurants will
be available at troll). Pavilions will be setup in the center of the campus
as a place for people to sit and eat lunch, or relax between classes. The
Barony of Tir Ysgithr will be hosting an offsite Saturday evening Bar-B-Que
and revel (garb optional and children allowed), and all attendees and
instructors are invited. A map to the evening revel will be available at
troll.

ABOUT THE SITE: The SCA has rented the entire school campus for this event.
That allows us to simultaneously hold classes in 18 separate locations at
the site (site maps will be provided at troll). But it also means we have a
big site to respect and clean when the event is over. Camping, pets, glass
bottles, and smoking (except in the parking lot) are not allowed. Brewing
has been allowed, and the site is discretely damp. Rapier classes will be
held indoors in the gymnasium, but athletic shoes are required to
participate in those classes. Food may not be taken indoors in any room
where there is carpeting. Site opens at 8:30 AM, with classes starting
promptly at 9:30 AM.

PARKING: The school has multiple parking areas, all of them conveniently
located close to where classes are held. There is a small lot by
Troll/Registration (where people can unload and be dropped off). However,
this lot is not for permanent parking. Look for signs directing attendees to
parking for the day when you arrive.

DIRECTIONS FROM THE SOUTH: Take your best route to I-10 and head west
(north) to the Orange Grove exit (#250). Ignore the construction signs that
say to exit early for Tucson. The Orange Grove exit is open, just stay on
I-10 following the signs for Phoenix. Exit at Orange Grove and turn right
heading east. At the second traffic signal light, Camino de la Tierra, turn
right (south). Travel for approximately ½ mile. The school will be on your
left.
