Greetings,

Conrad von Zuberbuhler (born Fall of 1320) has no king but supports the Holy Roman Emperor.  Being from Ravensburg in Swabia, Conrad is run out of this area by Emperor Louis the IV (The Bavarian) for Conrad’s unstinting support for John of Bohemia over Louis (until being shot at least twice and wounded on the field at Crecy fighting along with Charles son of John, escaping while John and his body guard were slain). Conrad goes to Italy for a time to fight and then comes back to support Charles to become Charles the IV, Holy Roman Emperor.  It was on his many journeys over the Alps in the entourage of Charles that Conrad meets his lady (and his title) in Apfenzell, Switzerland where he settled between trading and fighting in Italy and trading and politics in the Imperial City of Ravensburg.  Although Switzerland has no king, Conrad holds Charles the IV to be his overlord and God to be his keeper.

Popes of interest include Clement VI who supports Charles for King of Germany and Innocent VI who favors the coronation of Charles as HRE and then provides excellent employement opportunities for Conrad by helping with the Peace of Bretigny between England and France, thus bringing thousands of unemployed soldiers to Italy leading to the Free Companies.  Urban V does his best to run the Free Companies (and Conrad’s employment) out of Italy, unsuccessfully for the most part and, incidentally, returns the Papacy to Rome from Avignon. Truly a dull time to be alive.
