[Artemisia] Embordery Question

You may want to look into Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion 4.  She has details about smocks realitive to the time period, and this time in COLOR!!!!!  So far from what I have read it could be 1-3 strands, depending on the thickness of the floss.  I am using one strand of Splendor and it looks fine with the motif and linen I am using for a smock I am currently working on. I ended up having to use 2 strands of linen floss for another project I finished before Estrella, again it was due to the corse linen I was using.

Can anyone out there tell me what size of Floss was most commonly used for
embordery on smocks and such in the 1500s to about 1560ish.
Thank you
