I share your concern.  Especially as I have a neighbor up the road who likes
to get drunk and high and beat his woman.  I suspect he's the one who shot
my black cat, who is still locked in a dog crate recovering from a shattered
upper leg.  I wish I could bring the whole (black!) cat colony in the house,
but unfortunatey it's just not possible.  With 5 (now 6) in-house-only
kitties, and one dog that thinks they're squeeky toys, it would never work.
All I can do is feed them well, give them warm places to sleep and pray they
stay close to home.  I *always* worry about what some idiot might do to my
livestock while I'm not at home.
