I'm getting my thoughts together on classes I could teach at Uprising. Anything of specific interest this year? Ideas, questions and suggestions are welcome. L is for lecture and D is for dance movement based classes. Esther

(L) History of belly dance and it's relationship to the SCA today
(D) How to tweak your modern belly dancing for period/SCA
(L) Basic Understanding of Arabic music for dancers and listeners
(L) How to pick dance appropriate music for presentation
(D) How to interpret an Egyptian style taqseem
(D) Introduction to Balady dance technique and structure (Balady meaning the dance not the American rhythm name)
(D) Intermediate Balady
(D) Advanced Balady
(L) Picking a plausible SCA persona for belly dancers
(L) Dance etiquette
(D) How to improvise during dancing and not panic
(D/L) Introduction to Turkish Roma dance technique and why it's not "Gypsy dance"
(D) How to dance to an Arabic melody and phrasing structures
(L) Middle Eastern Folk dances: what they are, what they are not, and why they are controversial
(D) Types of shimmies and how to use them effectively
(L) The three required elements of belly dance and Arabic SITA dance
(D) Traveling steps
(L) Identifying musical instruments of the Arab World
(D) Layering techniques
(D) Introduction to women's Saiidi dance
(L) How to make Ottoman women's hats/coats/pants
(L) Overview of 16th C. Ottoman women's costume

I'm not currently doing finger cymbal classes for the SCA because I still haven't found definitive proof of their existence during SCA period. Still looking- sorry.
