Subject: [Northshield] Bardic Madness XXI Challenges

Greetings and good evening to you all!

I am proud to announce the challenges for Bardic Madness XXI to be held in the Shire of Schattentor on April 23, 2011! The challenges and descriptions appear below. If you are interested in being a patron for one of the challenges, please contact me as soon as possible. The challenges go quickly and are assigned on a first-come first-served basis. Please consider including your first and second choices to improve the chances you will get assigned a challenge. If you are interested in being a patron, but are not quite sure what that entails, please feel free to contact me privately – anyone with interest in the Bardic community is welcome to be a patron.

Ensemble Tale: Older and Wiser…or not?
As a group, participants will tell a tale of a task undertaken and a lesson learned… or not. The patron will “conduct” the story by pointing to the person whose turn it is to continue the tale! You might get pointed at multiple times, so be ready!

The Wonder in the World
Such wonders exist out there! What will you find when you arrive? Or on the way? Or have you already? Speak of the wonder and beauty that you have seen and share the joy of the new with those back home. If appropriate, cast your spell in a form that you have learned, or that is commonly used, in the new place. Originator & Patron: Owen Alun

Make a Joyful Noise
Instrumental music is a large part of the period musical tradition and an important component of many celebrations. Play a song of celebration on an instrument, either by itself or as accompaniment to yourself or someone else.

Authenticity’s Delight:
Perform an original piece (yours or someone else’s) composed in a period style or perform a piece documentable to SCA period. Plan to briefly introduce the piece by saying what style it is in, and from when and where.

Coming of Age
Many phases of life begin with a special celebration or a momentous occasion – important birthdays, life events, religious ceremonies, or even just a noteworthy experience - all can mark a new phase in life. Perform a piece that that tells of such a milestone and how it influences the new life that came after.

Word Salad
Provided with twenty-one words or short phrases (available the day of the event from the Provost), incorporate all of them - nicely dressed and garnished - into a poem, song, or other short work.
