Greetings,
 
Does anyone know of a way to determine which fake pearls are which?  I'm
looking for a strand called "pearl essence", or "pearl d'Orient", a
late-period method for making imitation pearls.
 
I have a strand which may or may not be pearl essence, and I'd like a way
to find out other than smashing one of the pearls...
 
This is early research for a class on how to make the little darlings. 
Now, if only someone will sell me the fish crystals....
