As I recall, some of the best sources on what you seek are actually
available from books about Japanese Imperial regalia. So, you might
consider looking at a book published by Monumenta Nipponica on
Japanese succession ceremonies. This book includes a description of
the Japanese imperial regalia.
The Japanese Enthronement Ceremonies: With an Account of the Imperial
Regalia. By D. C. Holtom. 1972. xii + 130 pages. Hardback ¥2,000/
$20.00/E20.00.
You should be able to borrow a copy through interlibrary loan.
