Greetings everyone!
I hope that everyone has had a good summer. It's been hot and dry but we
are starting to get towards that fall season quickly.
John's been busy this summer, but we have a schedule worked out.
Thursday, August 30, starting around 7 pm at his house for Music
Committee. This is where anyone in orchestra can come and put in their
ideas for what we will be working on this fall and next spring for
pieces. John does have some ideas already, of course - a mixture of old
and new pieces.
John would like to have the annual business meeting potluck at his house
on Thursday the 6th of September and then we can start up regular
rehearsals on Thursday the 13th of September. This gets us past those
first couple weeks of school startup and parent open houses, etc.
Keep in mind that next summer, third weekend in July, we will be playing
for the National Model T Association banquet. This is going to be a
pretty big deal - but we are not the spotlight, just dinner music. Since
they are interested in older cars, I had been given some suggestions for
using the 'old time movie music' that we played several years ago. That
was the one year I did not participate in orchestra at all, so I don't
actually know what that music was.
Schedule-wise, there are several options available to us. We don't HAVE
to do a fall concert, and if we work on music steadily all fall then
after the winter holidays start up in January we should be well-versed
in the music. Doing a Spring concert of what we will do in July and
making that a fundraiser concert as well - all ideas for what sort of
fundraisers we could do welcomed! - then we could fine-tune before the
banquet.
If we do want to do some sort of performance in the fall, then maybe we
could book one or two assisted living centers for early to middle
December and do the usual Christmas music along with whatever pieces we
have been working on for the Model T banquet.
These are just my thoughts - we can hash out details both at the Music
Committee and the potluck. Please let me or John know your ideas!
Hope to see folks on the 30th! If you need a reminder, here's John's
address:
1745 Ave C
This is the North East corner of the intersection of 18th St W and Ave C.
