Date: Weekend Bookbinding Workshop - October 22-23, 2005
Teacher: Maitre Lyle Fitz William (OP)
Place: Lyle and Elwynne's home in the Barony of Bergental (Western Mass.)

Lyle will be running two workshops on Saturday, October 22.
Sunday there will be time to work on anything not completed on
Saturday, and perhaps exploration of other binding styles through
examples and books available at the house.

SATURDAY
9am - 12/12:30pm

Ethiopian Bindings: This type of binding appears to be a
continuation of a style that was used in early period, which is
believed to have been introduced into the west in the 16th
century by Portugese and Italian missionaries. These are
unsupported bindings, using needles in pairs at each station.

12:30pm - 1:30pm
LUNCH provided at the house.

1:30pm - 5:30pm

Limp Bindings: This type of binding was often used for journals
and business uses. There are examples of limp bindings across
various cultures and time periods, making it difficult to nail
down characteristics to particular locales and times. We will be
working on limp bindings with leather covers.

6:00pm
DINNER - can be provided at the house or people can go out to eat
at one of the local restaurants. Attendees can discuss this.

SUNDAY
Breakfast - provided at the house.
Informal workshop time, working on unfinished projects, further questions
and discussion, show and tell.

MEALS: Please contact Elwynne ahead of time with any dietary requirements
