Hello all!

I'd like to share with you a change in Library of Congress' subject
headings for "Cookery".

It used to be that "cookery" was the term to use when searching
library catalogs, but there will be changes implemented in May and
June 2010 that will change all subject headings from the use of
"Cookery" to "Cooking". There also will be a topical subject heading
established for "Cookbooks" and also a genre/form heading for
"Cookbooks".

This means that materials -about- cookbooks can bear the topical
heading "Cookbooks" and books that -are- collections of recipes will
be assigned a genre/form heading "Cookbooks".

This should make searching for cookbooks and materials about
cookbooks much easier in library catalogs that use the Library of
Congress Subject Headings. This would include most larger academic
institutions, and many public and special libraries too.

a large academic library to obtain a number of SCA-period cookbooks
for the collection :-) )
