a regular post, rather than as a post from someone who still requires

Which answers another of your questions: Absolutely nothing is going on. 
   You can give up your conspiracy theories.
I might add that being a paid member of the SCA gets you a number of 
good things--ability to be an officer, receive awards, cheaper event 
fees, cool publications.  It does *not* automatically grant you entre 
onto any email list that I know off, whether SCA-oriented or not.
