I so totally agree with you.   I can't say the drive is a 'medieval'
experience, but I very much enjoy the discussions that often occur during
that time.

Again - I agree.  In small areas that do not have large population bases to
draw from, you are *never* going to have huge groups - no matter how much or
what kind of recruiting you do.  And there is only so much a small group of
people can do, before they start to wear out.  I know as the members of our
group have 'matured' (nice way of saying some of us are getting a bit long
in the tooth) we all have other responsibilities and other facets to our
lives, that draw on our time.  

A close friend pointed out recently that if we are running to events every
weekend, when do we have the time to do all the wonderful projects that many
of us have in our heads?  She has a very valid point.   Now if we all could
convince our employers to send us pay checks without requiring us to show up
at work........
