[Artemisia] the magic

One of my degrees is in Anthropology, so I can't help myself. From and
Anthropology base, this game we play is a microcosm, and an excellent
research study population, and very very very interesting one at that.

The population is composed of individuals. Some have difficulty balancing
duty and fun. Others slide effortlessly between the two extremes. Another
subset focus on either duty or focus on fun. Some have difficulty
experiencing the magic if they are busy with the background part of making
it magic for the populace, others feel the magic by providing the
background.

OK you shared yours ... now I will tell you mine.

I have never had the dilemma of choosing duty or fun when it comes to actual
participation at an event or in the SCA. My dilemma is in squaring away the
rest of my life so that I can actually make it to events. Thankfully ...
the world pressure is easing somewhat, and my life is finally becoming my
own again.

For me, duty is part and parcel of the fun. I understand that this
indicates a deeply troubled mind, but I get major giggle factor from serving
feast, from teaching children how to make and use their own tablet weaving
cards, from washing dishes after feast, from buckling my knight into his
armor, from dancing the broom after fighter practice.

I find magic in the SCA not as spokes in the wheel, but in the wheel itself.
For me, the SCA is magic.

my farthing's worth only

Cheers
