Baroness' Champion, One Thousand Eyes, March 6, 2004

The snows of winter hold the Barony of One Thousand Eyes within their icy
claw. The long starless nights and cold grey days draw a cloak of blackness
over the hearts of the populace. But a light shines here in the heart of
Artemisia, daring to defy the winter with Her radience.

Thus does Adelheid, Baroness of One Thousand Eyes, call for the fighters and
artisans of Her barony to come forth, to break the hold of winter with a
grand competition to decide a new Baroness' Champion.

She has decreed that her champion must have prowess of arms, so to defend
her. Therefore a hardsuit tourney of 5 weapons will be held.

She has decreed that her champion must have prowess in the Arte of Defence,
so as to counter any challenge. Therefore a rapier tourney will be held.

She has decreed that her champion must have prowess in the Arts and
Sciences, so as to please her with fine works. Therefore an arts&sciences
competition will be held.

And She has decreed that one of the qualities of a good champion is
knowledge of the person they are championing. Therefore, a quest will be
held to test the knowledge of Her Excelency.

All are invited to come and share in the joy of the day, but only a member
of the barony can be chosen as Baroness' Champion.

The competitions will be held as follows:

The fighting tourney once again consists of 5 forms of armored combat and a
rapier list of a
format that pleases Her Excellency. Again this year, there will be no 'day
passes' for weapon authorizations.
The fully armored forms shall be:
Sword and Shield
Florentine
Single sword
Great Sword
Spear
A lack of authorization in a form will not prevent you from competing in the
tourney; it only lessens your opportunities to display your prowess for her
Excellency.

The Arts and Sciences competition will be in the time honored tradition of
no documentation
required. Display entries are encouraged as this is an excellent format to
work the bugs out of that Kingdom Arts and Sciences entry as well as display
your work for the enjoyment of the populace.

The quest portion of the Baroness' Champion competition will include a test
of how much the entrant knows about Her Excellency. Baroness Adelheid was
born in the year 1481 in the Rhine Valley, specifically the Lower
Palatinate. Her family owned vineyards. Given this information, be prepared
to answer questions concerning the current affairs, religion, politics, and
popular culture Her Excellency would have observed from early childhood
through the first 40 years of her life (1481-1521).

There will also be a confidence poll conducted, to determine whether
Their Excellencies term of office shall be extended until Baronial
Birthday of AS XL (2005 Gregorian). Written comments will also be
solicited. Their Royal Majesties are planning to attend to oversee the
polling.

The site opens at 11:00 am and closes at 10:00 pm, Saturday March 6, 2004.
Opening court will be at noon, and armor inspection will begin immediately
after court. The site is the American Legion Hall in Blackfoot, Idaho. (same
as last year)
Site fee is $4.00 with a $3.00 surcharge for non-members. The site is
discreetly damp. Please make checks payable to the Barony of One Thousand
Eyes, SCA, Inc. There will be a dinner break from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
With the lists and Arts and Sciences competition, the day will be full.
