Greetings to the list.
Please indulge me as I share with you an update to the story of Ashley Falk,
an aspiring Chirurgeon and Page who was tragically killed by a train in An
Tir, while rescuing other children.

Subject: [SCA-Chirurgeon] Update on Ashley Falk's death & impact
Greetings, all. I have returned from our Coronation, held in Ashley's
branch. What I have learned in the past month is worth us all knowing, and
frankly the family needs any help they can get. Vis:
Ashley was the teenager and aspiring chirurgeon killed on the railroad
tracks by the Washington/Oregon border. Since then I've heard from the
chirurgeons who taught her and worked with her. It now appears that what
happened is that the adult was drunk. Ashley got one of the children away
from the tracks with the train bearing down on them and went after the other
when she was struck. I have asked the local chirurgeon to share these
circumstances with our Order of the Iron Chain though sadly, not surviving,
she does not qualify. I would still have them include her story in their
annals if they agree. One of our chirurgeons worked with others to put many
hours into sewing a gown for her to be buried in. Another donated his
baldric for this. There's a movement among the chirurgeons in the area to
put bear patches or pins on their chirurgeon favors in her memory.
Now for the needs. Ashley's mother was just putting her life back together,
working up from living on assistance. The funeral costs have overwhelmed
her, and she is still living next to the neighbor who caused the horrible
situation. She is understandably finding it torturous. The sca in the area
is working to fundraise both to help her set up somewhere else and to finish
paying funeral costs. We've been doing bag raffles and the like. I don't
know if other areas' chirurgeons would be interested in taking up this
cause, even putting a donation box at point or taking the time to share this
story. I find myself in an odd space, in pride and pain at a youth who, so
new to our calling of saving lives and our dream of nobility, understood and
acted them out at risk of her life not once but twice, and paid the ultimate
price. Indeed she perhaps understood them too well, and we have lost
someone the world will feel the lack of. I partly wish she had learned less
well, in all honesty. This is a rattled bunch of chirurgeons (and pages),
and I'm obviously feeling it too. Whatever good thoughts and fundraising
seems appropriate would be appreciated.
Thanks for your time,
THLord Tvorimir Danilov, MC, GdS, W.O.A.W.
