Greetings!
This year's (that is, 2005) children's summer reading program for public
libraries all over the US is "Dragons, Dreams, and Daring Deeds" and the
teen theme is "Joust Read" - both medievally themed. States that
participate in this collaborative program include (but are not limited
to) Idaho, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming, if you're wondering why I'm
mentioning this.
Starting in April or May of 2005 (the actual program usually starts in
June, but scheduling is critical) or before, every SCA group in
Artemisia might want to seriously think about getting in touch with
their local library for demos and other good opportunities to both help
kids learn to like reading and the Middle Ages, and (as a side benefit)
to promote awareness of the SCA in your locales.
The state libraries in each state provide materials for summer reading
to local public libraries, but the libraries are responsible for their
own programming of supportive activities (like demos). Many librarians
are aware the SCA exists (SCA librarians have their own list, after
all), but may not be aware of where the closest group is to them, or
what kind of things we do.
Here are some URLs with general information about activities in various
states:

This is just sort of a way-early heads up about some interesting
possibilities for the whole kingdom.
Hoping to create some interest,
