WINTER SOLSTICE COURT December 11, 2004
The Most Venerable Barony of Loch Salann invites one and all to the high
court event of the year, Winter Solstice Court! Gather your friends, wear your
best garb and join us at Central High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, for a day
of revelry and feasting. In keeping with tradition the event colors will be
those of our barony, Sable and Argent, but all colors are welcome, to brighten
this season of joy and remembrance. Bring your banners, pennons and standards
also, to create an air of medieval pageantry for the occasion!

There will be many competitions and contests to enliven the day! During the
afternoon there will be a multi-level, multi-game tournament with multiple
prizes run by THL James of Penmore, and please bring your best work for the
Artisans' Display and Laurels' Prize Tournament, run by HE Countess Caryn von
Katzenberg. Mistress Casamira Jawjalny is sponsoring a food-in-history contest to
take place during the peer circles, a Bag Raffle will be held during the day,
sponsored by HE Mistress Rachel Ashton, and the Youth Ministry will be running
children's activities throughout the event, including a boffer performance.
Subtlety contest! Mistress Casamira will supply a ball of marzipan and a
foil platter for $5.00. Each contestant/team must mold and decorate the marzipan
during the peer circles, but competitors can bring additional edible
decorative items to embellish their entry. Judges will choose the best entries to be
announced at dinner. As a Baronial fundraiser the entries will be auctioned
off. If the bid is greater than $10, the competitor gets their entry fee back!
The stage and auditorium are also available for performances up to half an
hour long each during the afternoon; please contact Mistress Bengta to schedule
your time.
Tables may be decorated during the afternoon for the traditional table
decorating contest. This year there will be a mystery "ingredient" which needs to
be incorporated into the decorative scheme! There will be prizes in several
categories, which may include: best use of sable & argent, most colorful, best
heraldic, largest group, Baroness Choice, populace choice or most imaginative!
During the feast the competition for Baronial Bard will take place. You must
sign up before 5:00 p.m. to compete. Singing and storytelling are welcome,
and documentation is not required. Only a resident of the Barony of Loch Salann
may win, but anyone is allowed and encouraged to perform. A cloak, similar to
the cloak the Bard of Artemisia wears, has been created to be passed down
through the Bards of Loch Salann. During the feast there will also be a
processional display of all gentles dressed in the baronial colors, and prizes will be
awarded.
