[Artemisia] folks going places

Thomas and Bart make a really good point. And on the flip side, I have also lived in a couple shires where the people play a lot locally, but never travel out of their area. It really does go both ways. Living a couple years in An Tir taught me that people have to travel long distances to almost any event because that Kingdom is incredibly huge and far apart!
I believe that people go and do what they can when they can. For example, my dear husband has to wake at 5am to get to work on time and usually works about 10 hours a day, which means he rarely goes to a fighter practice or a saturday event. But you'll find him at most camping events volunteering and doing all he can.
Some people have schedules that allow them a lot of freedom to do much. However, I do not think people should be mean to those that can not do as much because of mundane life. I feel this is part of the reason so many older players are becoming bitter. Real life and family matters should always come first.

I have to side with Bart on this. There are probably a number of newer players on this list, and to chastise someone for travelling far and not playing locally seems to me to be wrong and give the wrong impression. Travel in such a spread out Kingdom has always been encouraged and sometimes the weekend's you have off may not fall on the same one as local events. I like to support local events, but they are not always at the same time I can go.

I cannot see why "people travelling to events without attending local
meetings" would be any sort of problem at all for this completely
volunteer organization. You cannot force people to participate in a
way they cannot or choose not to do. It must come from them -- that is
the basis from which we start.
I, for one, was very glad to see the two gentles mentioned in a previous
post. Must I be forced to wait for them to fulfill a local attendance
quota before crossing swords with them again?
Respectfully submitted,
