Date: Saturday, January 28th
Time: Come as early as 10:00 a.m. and stay till you want to quit
Enjoy a day with other fiber nuts and share your enthusiasm and knowledge.
There were six participants in January: we visited and had a great time --
some spun fiber, some played with felting (we need to work on the felting
thing [which Lady Mom and I are]).
Again, we can:
1. Wash/dry fleece
2. Prepare wool fibers
a. Carding (hand and drum)
b. Combing (Viking combs)
c. Flicking (if you dont know what any of these are, come and find out)
3. Spin Wool top, roving, rolags, whatever we have
a. Drop spindle
b. Spinning wheel
4. Bring your own project you want to work on
a. Weaving (inkle, tablet, etc)
b. Knitting, crocheting, naalbinding, etc.
c. Anything else you can think of (youre here for the company, right)
5. Those who want to learn to knit socks or scarves, we can work on that.
If you don't have your own pattern you want to work on I have the following:
Sock: Requirements: yarn=22 wraps per inch, needles=size 1 double point,
gauge=16 sts and 21 rounds in two inches. The finished size is 7 3/4" foot
circumference, 9" long from cast-0n edge to top of heel flap, and 10" long
from back of heel to tip of toe (to fit men's shoe size 8 to 9). A slightly
smaller gauge will result in a smaller sock, a large gauge in a larger sock.
I would not vary the gauge much, because a little makes a big difference.
NOTE: this takes some knitting experience and will not be completed during
the workshop, but would need to be taken home and worked on -- can be
brought back the next month if there are questions about the heel or toe.
Scarf (called Twilight Dance): The pattern shown states they used teal, but
it looks to me like there is some purple in it. Use any color you like.
Requirements: yarn=two-ply at 9-10 wraps per inch, needles=size 9, gauge=4
sts per inch. There are beads on the fringe (optional) [I used white yarn
and bone beads when I made this for my sister-in-law. She loved it./marisa]
NOTE: minimal knitting experience necessary.
In short, if it is anything to do with fiber, well give it a try. Come
join us for a fun day. For those who are traveling and want to spend the
night, there is crash space available. Come in comfortable old clothing
(you might get dirty/dyed on, etc. so good outfits are not recommended).
No children please. If they are old enough and interested enough to
participate in the workshop without constant supervision, then they are
welcome.
