Indeed we will! The Barony of Loch Salann has lots of fun stuff planned for
Vikings vs. Scots--and that means the Ministry of Youth needs YOU!
The autocrats for Barons' War are anticipating 36 to 48 kids attending this
event. That means lots of opportunities for parents and older teens to
volunteer:
GOODIE BAGS - Every youth who participates in the Chivalry Card Contest will
receive one. Lady Bethoc has already donated plenty of small toys; I'm
asking parents to donate juice boxes, apples/oranges, or a couple of cookies
in some sort of wrapping (to keep them from crumbling). Four dozen of any
item would be great.
CHIVALRY CARD CONTEST - One other adult will be needed to help collect card
pouches & tally the cards at the end of the day.
VIKING "JEWELRY" - I'll need at least two other responsible adults to help
younger children with the glue, cord, and gold spray paint. Older teens may
enjoy this, and everyone comes out of it with some spiff accessories.
CELTIC ILLUMINATION
I'll need one other adult register which children receive coloring books and
crayons, and to help collect and judge the completed booklets near the end
of the event.
GYPSY TRADING STORE
After the kids Plunder the Dead on the battlefield, they can spend their
gruesome gains here. I'll be playing the gypsy trader; at least two more
adults should be on hand to keep the kids behaving
courteously as they wait their turn at the bartering table...and to make
sure small trinkets don't accidentally go wandering.
SUPPER SKITS - Mistress Casamira has supplied a number of short, pun-filled
skits for the youth to rehearse on Saturday for presentation during the
evening's feast of ribs. At least one adult will be needed to read the part
of the narrator and help the "director."
BOFFER COMBAT - ***Parents must register their children for this
activity.***
Waivers must always be signed for all combat sports, so the kids will not be
allowed to register themselves. At least one adult dedicated to registration
and keeping the lists would be very
helpful. An adult dedicated to keeping the fighters hydrated would be very
welcome.
Don Azir De Lucera will be running the tournament. He'll need boffer
marshals to make sure everything goes smoothly and safely. Support our young
warriors with your actions as well as your cheers!
Boffer marshaling is an excellent learning opportunity for cadets, squires,
and beginning adult fighters.
SHEEP TOSS - (Save the livestock jokes for the after-hours bardic.)
At least two adults are needed to keep the sheep from wandering out of
bounds, and to prevent any brawls between junior Vikings and Scots.
HERALDIC FACE PAINTING - will need at least three adults to paint faces,
clean brushes, keep the 'canvas' sitting still, and dry the painted faces. A
good opportunity for budding illuminators. May need a field herald to
translate verbal descriptions into sketches.
WAR OF THE WATER ROCKS - Think informal, no-armor melee with sponges and
rubber bands. Will need several adults to keep water buckets full and
artillary from flying at unauthorized targets (i.e., royalty and other
unsuspecting bodies). A great opportunity for fighters who want to cool down
after a hot day.
Contact me for any questions, comments, or donations.
You saw how much the kids loved the Children's Court at Uprising.
Come share your time and enthusiasm with the youth of Artemisia to make this
event safe, educational, and FUN.
