Attention all attending Estrella War.
Artemisia will compete in the Combat Cooking event this year.
I have been given responsibility for the Artemisian team.
I'm looking for volunteers who will be at the Estrella warsite on Thursday
at 8 AM and want to play in this arena. You can plan to spend all day,
Thursday, with the cooking competition, with awards being handed out about
7:30 PM at a special court.
The Cooking Competition rules are attached. Basically, we need 8 people (5
cooks - 2 scullery, 1 judge), a kitchen (Barony Ashton has graciously said
we can use theirs), and water. The people participating can be from what
ever source we deem necessary (Kingdom populace, allies populace, etc.) just
so they know they are working for the Artemisian Kingdom.
The Cooking Competition coordinator, Baroness Ann of Bushnell, will supply
the scenario (culture/storyline) and the food the morning of the
Competition.
If you are interested, please send me an e-mail. Identify yourself by name
and location (Shire, barony AND mundane city/state). Specify whether you
want to judge, cook or do scullery duties. Give me a brief description of
your qualifications to join in this competition. What area(s) of medieval
cooking you know & your strong points and weaknesses.
For duties other than scullery, let me know what kind of medieval cooking
you "know" and your areas of expertise.
Example: Casamira Jawjalny, O.L. - Barony of Loch Salann (Sandy, UT)
Cook and/or Judge.
Have done many period feasts in Loch Salann.
Competed in 3 and judged in 1 Medieval Iron Chef Competition.
Knowledge of Roman, AngloSaxon, English, French, Italian, Polish-Slavic
medieval foods and dietary customs.
Have worked with camp stoves, dutch ovens. Good at planning the menu,
prefer to cook main dishes, side dishes & do baking. Fairly good with sauces
and pies. Not good at fine details needed for "showcase" eye-catching
pieces - however can do presentation of ordinary dishes.
Comfortable using period spices and ingredients.
Not very experienced in Middle Eastern period food.
Lady Hildegard and I are the two team members already chosen. Please let me
know if you are interested in joining us. I think we're going to have fun!
Come join us. It would be great if we could have representatives from the
other areas of Artemisia. No, you don't have to be an expert cook to put
your hat in the ring.
Let's show the Knowne World that Artemisia can Cook!!
If you prefer snail mail, send to 10083 Heytesbury Lane, Sandy, UT 84092.
Please pass this to any cooks who might be interested in joining this fun
event.
Jeanne Panlener / Baroness Casamira Jawjalny, O.L.
