[Artemisia] Artemisian Events

Greetings Artemisia:
In my recent travels I have noticed a serious breach of the usually
excellent courtesy shown by Artemisians at events. It is this:

Their Majesties' court at Crown Tourney last night was the third Royal Court
I have seen recently that was disrupted by a ringing cellular phone. The one
that went off last night was BEHIND THE THRONES, and its owner was nowhere
near it. A royal attendant had to pick it up and try to silence it.

I have no words to express how rude this is. We try very hard to keep
mundanities out of our SCA experience, or at least out of sight. A cell
phone's ringing carries throughout an entire hall. It takes everyone's
attention away from their SCA experience and right back into the mundane
world.

It's true, people have lives, people have work. But if you can't turn the
phone off and be out of touch for an hour while you attend court, perhaps
you should be attending to that life or that work instead of coming to
events.

In all my travels I receive reports of the courtesy and hospitality shown by
Artemisians at home and abroad. I have always been proud of our people for
this and many other reasons. I hope this cell phone behavior is an anomaly
that will go away quickly.
