Padruig is correct that a RSO is not necessarily a
child molester, hence the background check to identify
the conviction of record.  HOWEVER, it's also
important to remember that what people are ultimately
convicted of may not match the original crime. 
Personal experience shows that plea agreements, victim
recantations, etc. (all the elements of real life
criminal justice systems) may affect how the person's
crime is charged and prosecuted.  The only way to know
details is to  read the person's criminal file, which
is not available to the general public, nor available
for background checks.  The individual elements of a
crime may also vary from state to state.  What
constitutes battery in one state may be very different
from the elements of battery in another.        

Just some more thoughts to chew on.....
