[Artemisia] Event Emergency

On the note of event emergencies...
Jashon Faustus and I were working on an joint Sheriff/chirurgeon handbook
that was to cover event emergencies. We were making guidelines for how to
conduct event emergencies such as mass casualty situations, event
evacuation, initiate amber alerts, when and how to notify police and ems,
contact numbers for poison control and burn units, directions to the nearest
hospital, and so forth. I would like to continue working with him on this
and would like as much input as possible from the populace as to which
information would be necessary and which office it should fall under.

I have to say that I have been at remote events...and I have felt very safe.
At one event there was a forest fire (Remember Raptor Fire?) The locals
were surprised that so many volunteers were there to help out...of course,
it was hard to keep the ladies in long dresses from battling beside the
men...but when we asked them to look at themselves, and think about what
they wanted to do...they looked at their skirts and responded "Oh Yeah,
maybe that's not a good idea!" :)
I remember a particular Raptor war when the cowboys from the stable came
over. They got a bit drunk, and started to get rowdy, and a bit forward
with a couple of the dancers around the fire...there were some gentlemen in
our encampment who strongly advised them that it was a bad idea to harass
the dancers....
I have no doubt that if there was an emergency...we have gentles who would
step up make sure we are safe.

Arwen,
Mst. Juliana's response of dial 911 is good. While waiting for them to
arrive (which could be a long time given some of our event sites), the
situation will dictate what to do.
There was an event in Silver Keep many years ago where some mundane bad boys
drove through causing some problems. About 20 fighters "greeted" them with
various rattan weapons. Bad Boys wisely choose to find easier pickings.
Some of our fighters are indeed warriors. Should a person attempt to cause
bodily harm to SCA members at an event, I suspect that said warriors would
not stand idly by while waiting for the law enforcement guys to show up....
Just my thoughts. BTW, I would NOT be standing idly by.....
YIS,
Alan
