[Artemisia] Identifying/protecting our kids one way or another

As most of the old-timers may recall, I have four children. Three of them
are grown and the fourth nearly so.

When they were young, I went to the Army/Navy surplus store near the base
and had Military Identification tags (in a less political world 'dog tags')
made that indicated who the child was. The tag was structured like a real
ID tag, with the child's name, Last, First, Middle. On the line usually
reserved for branch of service, were the parents' names. Where religion was
usually found was contact information. On the blank reserved for blood type
was the child's blood type. For the child allergic to bee stings, we had
the tags printed on red tags, just like active duty personnel at the time.
There were three of each tag made. They were required to wear them at all
times. One stayed with me, attached to a wristband. One attached to the
child’s shoe. The third was attached to the child. When the child was
small, the tag was attached to the D-ring sewn into the back of the child's
clothing ( a period practice by the way). I suppose now it might be viewed
as cruel and inhuman to put a tether on a child’s clothing, but honestly I
never misplaced a child. As the child got older, the tag moved from the
D-ring to a necklace just like mom's and dad's.

My younger daughter still wears her tag as an item of personal jewelry. I
don't get it, but there it is. The older daughter has hers in her jewelry
box and the older son has a set of military identification tags all his own
now.

That reminds me ... I must find the youngest's ID tags ... Uprising is
coming up.

Cheers

Never knock on death's door........ Ring the doorbell and run. He hates
that.
