[Artemisia] Tent Opinions

Greetings,

If improperly made, or if the weather is heavy or prolonged, the Geteld can get leaky. Most tents can. The Geteld also has a steep pitch to the roof and no walls (so to speak) so that helps some.

But canvas no matter the quality will get moldy (as will plastic and other tent material) if not properly dried. Nothing is worse than a moldy tent. And you are absolutely right.

I maintain, that for nice Artemisian Summers, the drop cloth tent will serve. I wouldn't want to put one through our wetter Uprisings or take it up Everest with me, two experiences that are sometimes nearly synonymous.

However, again, this doesn't answer the question asked I guess, which was what do I think of that brand of tent. I don't really know that brand of tent. I've been very satisfied with my Eureka (15 SCA seasons and only in the past two beginning to show its wear) and the Wenzels I've had experience with. But, again, with modern tents, Seam Seal is a must!

But I encourage everyone, even if its just for show, to build some kind of period tent. Like banners and good garb/armor/hats they make things that much neater for us all.

Actually, Your Excellency, I have no idea of your Getelds are leaky! I have
known other people to go the cheap/inexpensive/dropcloth way, and end up
regretting it, though. Really coarse canvas can leak badly, mold, mildew,
etc.
Larger tents would be ideal for those with more stuff, or those doing
multi-week events, of course. But if you're like me, and only get the
occasional camping weekend....;o)

going on long trips on planes, small tents are easier to haul or you can
just buy one when you get to say . . . Pennsic, which, along with a tube of
seam seal, will suit you fine.
