[Artemisia] Cariadoc eyes, was Email and Social Interaction

Dunno about his vision-sharpening trick, but I do know that he actually states, in his "Miscellany," that he does the without-glasses thing when he's being Cariadoc, and not being David Friedman.  It's in an article he wrote about behaving authentically, IIRC.  So it's not just some silly rumor, Morgan, whether you care to believe it or not...

  I only convey the legend I have heard.  And I know how myth-making can 
  be.  At Known World Dance, I spoke with several folks who had the most 
  vivid memories of me at last Gulf War, even after I told them I've never 
  been to one.  (One conversation - "Are you sure you've never been to 
  Gulf War?"  "Ummm, yeah, I'm sure.  Even when I drank, I never lost a 
  whole war.")

  With a Cariadoc, it can only be worse.  But I can vouch that it doesn't 
  take much loss of accuity to lose the stars.  I have also been told 
  (more legend?) that he uses a (period?) trick to sharpen his vision 
  temporarily.  Hold the tips of your thumbs and forefingers together, and 
  view distant object through the pinhole thus formed.  It works quite 
  well.
