For what it is worth, Kian's "gambesons" are long-sleeved single layer, 
3.5oz linen tunics. He has heat issues and wears it basically to prevent 
chafing from his armor and gorget. They are also Easy to wash, changeout 
and dry on long event weekends.

That being said, it often takes a couple of tries to find what kind 
works best for you. Our climate is much warmer than it was in period, so 
what they would have used, might not work now. Try it one way, and make 
adustments later on. It's part of that being creative aspect. ;)
