Under the "volunteers needed" is there a person to contact?  You could 
contact the Autocrat and tell them you'd like to volunteer to do: X, Y, or Z 
{You naming what jobs you'd be willing to do}  or letting them know you can 
arrive early to help set up, or you are a night owl who'd be willing to 
sweep/mop after the event.  Make it a choice to play /work as you want.  I 
don't do late night or early morning well any more, but I still can wash up 
the serving dishes, sit at Troll, help with the List table and serve feast. 
Don't be afraid to name your own contributions before the event.
