Unto the Good Peoples of These Glorious Lands of Artemisia
Greetings!
I am known to most of you in The Society as Lord Aghren the Brus (aka Aggie,
aka The Bread Guy!)
In this missive I am representing the Utah Renaissance Festival and Fantasy
Faire. (URFFF) And I thank Yumitori for allowing me to utilize this list
for this purpose.
I know that many of you are not at all interested in ren faires. I respect
this. But some of you ARE interested, and to you I address my missive. I
have also spoken to their Excellencies, the Baron and Baroness of these fine
lands - they both heartily said that if there is one demo that we do all
year, this one makes the most sense.
URFFF would like very much to provide an opportunity for the local SCA
groups to demonstrate our skills and knowledge in all things medieval.
Therefore, at the faire this May, there will be a special section JUST FOR
SCA members. It will be just off of town square and will include places for
you to pitch your pavilions (barony, shire or personal), set up fighting
erics and demonstrate your great combat skills, sit quietly and work on Arts
and Sciences items, (lace making, spinning, weaving, calligraphy, book
binding, harp playing, singing, etc.) all the while greeting the general
public and talking to them about your passion for history and its
recreation. We have arranged to have a couple of large pop ups for our
members to sit in and demonstrate their work, if needed.
We don't want to impose any schedules on the SCA members this year, unless
they are already interfacing with some of our cast directors for dancing or
stage performing. We just want to provide an area for all of us to get
together and enjoy people.
The staff of URFFF thinks that this can only be a win/win situation. It
provides the ren faire with authenticity that may otherwise not be as
evident and provides the SCA an excellent scenario for recruiting new
members. (Pamphlets, business cards, etc. are all welcome and encouraged.)
Over night camping is encouraged and available. If you don't have a
pavilion to camp in, we will have a Guest/Cast camping area that will be
screened from public view. Camps and pavilions can be left up between
weekends. There will be full time security on site. But we encourage you
to take all valuables off site with you if you leave between weekends. This
will also ensure that your items are secured in case of inclement weather -
which can be sudden and devastating in our fair lands in the month of May.
The site is new and has lots of shade. It is about a mile west of 1900 W on
Pioneer Road. (see the URFFF website for more info)
There are only two things that I need to impose upon you to make this happen
in an organized and successful manner for everyone involved;
1) I need you to contact me individually off list and let me know what
days you will be there, what you will be demonstrating, and how many
complimentary passes you will need to get yourself and your SCA party into
the faire. Please remember that the first weekend of the faire encompasses
both Middle Eastern War and Mother's Day. If you can only be there for one
or the other weekend, just let me know so that we may accommodate your
needs. (The opening day is Friday and would be an excellet evening for
pre-war sparing/demo.)
2) If you would like to sell any items that you may be demonstrating,
you need to either apply as a merchant for the faire or find an existing
merchant that would be willing to take your wares on consignment within
their shop(s). You are welcome to give out contact information and take
orders for custom work, but anyone making sales at the event must go through
proper merchanting channels in order to keep the faire in the good graces of
the tax collectors.
If you have any questions, please contact me off list.
Our URFFF website is www dot utahrenfest dot com - (be sure to put the "www"
in the addy or our site will not display. It has some kind of default
glitch). If you are interested in merchanting, please fill out the forms on
the website and Cc them to me.
I look forward to hearing from MANY of you! And thank you again for your
time and interest!
As Always,
In Service to the Dream
Lord Aghren the Brus

are being made if you are interested!
