<<snip>>All of these help bring in people who might not otherwise come and people don't usually attend things alone. The more people you attract the more fun and the more others passing by want to know what's going on. And if you have a good Châtelaine they are at weekly practices with fliers in hand just looking for an ear to bend. Fighter practice doesn't have to be for just the fighters ( unless it's really cold out, then you guys are on your own!). It can be a social event every week if the group puts out the effort to go.

I have to say that the last line of this post is why we go, as a family, every week, without fail, and have been for almost 2 years. That is why we hit every possible event. It isn't just for the fighting--even though that really curls my toes! It is for the social chatter and friends. It is for who we become when we don our garb. Isn't that why we started playing? Because we like who we are when we are with these friends? I love watching my kids learn lessons of humility, honor and basic chivalry by just being there. Lessons such as these are not learned from books. They are learned, every week at fighter practice, and at every event. Everyone is welcome--come as you are. Skills are shared. Friendships made and renewed. I really believe that if a new person feels that he/she is welcome, regardless of fighting, regardless of interests, just simply feels welcome, they will be back. Frequently. Probably with friends.
Just let go and have fun. Have the mentality of a kid on Christmas morning that has more fun with the large box than the present. Enjoy yourself and others will want to have some fun too and will get sucked into this make-believe world that we wish was real.
I'll go back to my little corner now...
