Subject: Re: [Artemisia] Fw: Proposed change to Royaltymembershiprequirements
I believe that membership is also required to be a Landed Baron or Baroness.
If someone sees a problem with 11 months membership, considering we are in
our 4th year,
(& counting down the months we have left :>} ), but 19 years of paying to
play.
Membership is part of the game, as far as I can see, and a very minor part
of the cost of playing.
Membership should be a requirement to hold any office Local, or Kingdom, it
is a small sign of commitment.

I agree Excellency, and as I stated I agree with the membership requirements, it's the proving membership *for the duration* that bothers me. For example, you- if Territorial Baron were considered Royalty (rather than Nobility, as is the case), and you were submitting your name for consideration in, say, June, to be invested in December of this year, you would have to prove that your membership was valid *through December of 2011*. Having been so thoroughly corrected on my mistake that membership renewal reset rather than added on, it is not as b ad as I originally thought, but there is still that nagging part that bugs me- we will no longer accept the Sworn Word of those entering a Crown List, they must prove that their membership will be valid until the end of their reign. We don't require proof of tenure-duration membership for any other position, including the BoD itself, why require it of our would-be Crowns? Conversely, if we are going to
start requiring tenure-duration proof, why not start with the true ruling authority in the SCA, the Board of Directors. If they want people to prove that they will be members for the duration of their tenure as Crown, why don't they lead by example?
