Mistress Juliana can best answer this, and I'm sure her answer is forthcoming, but what I remember of the discussions regarding this very issue arising is as follows: Instructors are volunteering to teach a brief class, not to spend great lengths of time supervising the children, therefor the background check does not apply, BUT the Two-Deep Rule, i.e. two unrelated adults present at all times, DOES apply, and of course Instructors have the option of requiring that a parent attend the class with their child.
And of course, any class in which one of the designated two adults doesn't show up should be cancelled, not "run short handed".
Having said all of that, if ANYTHING Mistress Juliana says is different, she is right and I am wrong, no debate.

Subject: [Artemisia] Spring Collegium and youth classes
Greetings,
Do the instructors of youth classes at collegium have to have the background check stuff done,
or does there simply need to be a 'certified' youth leader present in the classroom when uncertified instructors are leading their class for the kids?
There has been a call for youth instructors at Spring collegium, so it would be helpful to know this so that those interested in volunteering know whether or not they would be accepted. If not, it would also be helpful to identify what they need to do in order to be acceptable.
Thank you
Bethoc
